Title Over 561 Pixels Wide
What This Means
The estimated pixel-rendered width of the title exceeds 561 pixels — Google's approximate desktop search result container width for title text. Content beyond this threshold is replaced with an ellipsis (...) in the search snippet.
Why It Matters for SEO
Character count (checked by title_too_long) is an approximation. Pixel width is more accurate because different characters occupy different amounts of horizontal space in a proportional font. "WWWWWWWW" is 8 characters that render very wide; "iiiiiiii" is 8 characters that render very narrow. A title with 55 characters that happen to use many wide glyphs may still truncate, while a 65-character title of narrow characters may fit.
Truncation removes information from the SERP headline at the exact moment users are deciding whether to click. If the truncated portion contained a key differentiator, users see only a partial, less compelling headline.
What the Platform Checks
Using per-character pixel width estimates based on common proportional font metrics, the platform calculates the total estimated render width of the title text. Fires when the estimate exceeds 561px.
How to Fix It
Shorten the title until the pixel width estimate is safely below 561px — aim for under 530px to allow for minor rendering variation:
- Remove trailing brand names or site names if they push the title over the limit.
- Use shorter synonyms: "comprehensive" → "complete", "everything you need to know" → "the full guide".
- Front-load the most important content — the first 500px should contain the core message.
- Check pixel width with Google's own SERP preview tools in Search Console or third-party title preview tools.
After trimming, re-read the title. It should still be complete and compelling within the visible portion.
