Title Below 200 Pixels Wide
What This Means
The platform estimates the pixel width at which the title would render in Google's search result title font. A calculated width below 200 pixels corresponds to a very short text string — typically fewer than 12-16 characters depending on which characters are used.
Why It Matters for SEO
Google renders title tags at approximately 20px font size in a proportional typeface in its desktop search results. A title that renders below 200 pixels is so short it is essentially just a keyword or a single word. Google's title rewriting system is particularly aggressive about replacing extremely brief titles with content it considers more descriptive.
This check and title_too_short (below 30 characters) frequently co-occur. The pixel-width measurement is more precise because it accounts for character width variance — a 10-character title using wide characters like "WWW MMMM" renders much wider than one using narrow characters like "iiiiiiiii".
What the Platform Checks
The platform calculates an estimated rendered pixel width using per-character width approximations based on a standard proportional font. This check fires when the estimated width is below 200px.
How to Fix It
Write a longer, more descriptive title that renders between 200 and 561 pixels. In practice, fixing the character length (below 30 chars) will simultaneously fix the pixel width issue in almost all cases.
A title that is 40+ characters of normal Latin text will render above 200px. Focus on writing a substantive, specific title — the pixel width follows naturally.
