Too Many Links on Page
What This Means
The total number of links on the page (counting both internal and external links) exceeds the high-volume threshold. This counts all followed <a href> elements in the document.
Why It Matters for SEO
Google has noted that very high link counts on a single page can affect how equity is distributed and may trigger reduced crawl depth. While there is no hard rule, pages with hundreds of links per page are generally considered excessive from a link equity perspective.
This is a notice — large directory pages and navigation-heavy pages legitimately have many links. The check is a prompt to review whether every link on the page is intentional and useful.
What the Platform Checks
Counts all followed <a href> elements on the page (both internal and external). Fires when the count exceeds the high-volume threshold.
How to Fix It
- Audit the page links: are all of them genuinely relevant?
- Navigation menus, breadcrumbs, and footer link lists inflate the count — ensure these are not redundantly linking to the same pages multiple times.
- For content with naturally high link density (resource pages, link directories): this notice is expected and may be acceptable.
- Consider paginating long link lists rather than placing all links on one page.
Find every high-link-countpage on your site
The audit reports total link counts per page so you can identify pages with unusually high link density.
