Links on the page use generic, non-descriptive anchor text — common phrases like "click here", "read more", "here", "learn more", "this link", "this article", or similar — that tell neither users nor search engines anything specific about the linked page's topic.

Why It Matters for SEO

Anchor text is one of the signals search engines use to understand the topic of the linked page. A link with anchor text "Organic Gardening Guide" sends a clear topical signal; the same link with anchor text "click here" sends no signal at all. While this is a notice-level check (individual instances rarely have dramatic impact), widespread use of non-descriptive anchors across a site represents a missed opportunity for topical signal reinforcement throughout the internal link structure.

The platform checks anchor text content against a list of known non-descriptive phrases. Fires for links whose anchor text consists solely of generic phrases.

How to Fix It

• Replace generic anchor text with descriptive text that reflects the linked page's topic.
• Before: "<a href=\"/guides/on-page-seo\">click here</a> to learn about on-page SEO"
• After: "learn about <a href=\"/guides/on-page-seo\">on-page SEO fundamentals</a>"
• In content: train writers to link to the topic, not to "click here". "Learn more about [topic]" with the topic as anchor text is a simple, effective pattern.
